The shared code was ready in a week. Getting it into two stores took an afternoon, and almost none of that afternoon was code.
What actually takes the time
- Screenshots, at the exact sizes each store demands
- A privacy policy that lives at a real URL
- App Store review answers about data collection
- Signing keys, and remembering where you put them
Screenshots are the bottleneck
Both stores want several sizes, and the App Store rejects anything that is not pixel-exact. I now generate them from a single Compose preview rendered at each required resolution, rather than taking them by hand on a device.
The release checklist
- Version bumped in one place both platforms read
- Release notes written before the build, not after
- Privacy policy URL live and reachable
- A real device install from the store build, not the debug one
What I would tell myself
Submit to Apple first. Review takes longer, and if something comes back you want the Play release still in your hands rather than already live and out of step.
